The Gallery "East of the Sun"
Public transport options are frustratingly limited. Cruise ship passengers interested in visiting this gallery should ask their shore excursion manager about an option that includes Kamøyvær.
The fishing village we call home is so small that it only takes one full bus to nearly double its population. It can quickly get crowded when cruise ships call at the island. As a result, there are times when we simply cannot accommodate unannounced tour groups. We ask tour leaders to schedule a visit in advance.
Individuals who come on a less chaotic day will enjoy an unforgettable glimpse of quiet fishing village life. Depending on her schedule, you may have the opportunity to have more than a brief chat with the artist.
The Gallery "West of the Moon"
Yes, we understand that walking in bad weather (such as lashing Arctic rains, intense winds, or blizzard conditions) may not seem pleasant, but the gallery really is close to the harbour. The walk will be anywhere from 120m to 220m, depending on the quay. A stroll from the bow to the stern of your ship may actually take much longer.
We also know that busy bus tour schedules may make it impossible for groups to visit the gallery during regular hours. Tour leaders are nonetheless encouraged to contact us about visiting the gallery outside of normal opening times. Our small team of multilingual elves lives in the same building as the gallery.
